On September 16, 2020, the Party Branch members of Xiamen Harfway House Service Center for patients with spinal cord injury visited Xiamen Olympic Museum, as part of the “Five Ones” activities of Xiamen Jimei District Disabled Persons' Federation. To extend our care and concern, XOM staff have prepared well in advance.
As one of the twenty-eight members of the International Olympic Museums Network, Xiamen Olympic Museum has been striving to promote Olympic culture and demonstrate Olympic history. As a a non-profitable international organization, we have been focusing on the disadvantaged and popularizing Olympic knowledge.
In the Olympic Charter, the IOC "Olympic principles of" articles have one paragraph: "everyone should enjoy the possibility of sport, and is not subject to any form of discrimination, and reflect the mutual understanding, friendship, solidarity and fair play of the Olympic spirit".
Accompanied by Ms. Yun Wu, deputy curator of Xiamen Olympic Museum, the guests went through all the exhibition halls of XOM. They carefully listened to the interpreter's introduction of the collections and were deeply impressed by Mr. Ching-Kuo Wu’s rich Olympic treasures including the beautiful badges, lovely mascots, unique costume and ect.
As a world-renowned architecture expert, Mr. Ching-Kuo Wu designed the gyroidal railing stairway for the convenience of the disabled visitors, elderly and children, which wins unanimous applause from the tourists and demonstrates the openness and inclusiveness of the museum.
The guests were touched by the legend story of Mr. Bin Hou, the three-time Paralympic high jump champion and global Paralympic Ambassador, for his optimism and hard struggle. They took photos with the podium of the 2008 Beijing Paralympics.
As per the guests, it’s a rewarding trip, which broadened their horizon, and enhanced their sense of belonging and deepened their understanding of the Olympic culture. They were so delighted and expressed their gratitude.
