Gourd pyrography is a traditional art and craft that consists of using a soldering iron to draw on the surface of gourds. It has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage.
Ms. Zhao Guihua, a native of Hui'an, Fujian Province, inherits Hui'an Branding Painting, which is a traditional art of Hui'an County and one of the representative items of Quanzhou Municipal Intangible Cultural Heritage. Hui'an branding painting depicts the daily life of Hui'an women, such as labor and family life. It vividly depicts the good qualities of Huian women, such as diligence and simplicity.
The four pieces of works display the four arts in traditional Chinese culture.
These three scrolls, named "Old Trades", depict 36 tradesmen at work. Some of the trades have been slowly disappearing with the change of time, but Ms. Zhao Guihua, the non-hereditary bearer of branding painting, uses the technique of branding to show the knowledge and charm of the old trades.
