On April 21, 2025, the 13th Anniversary Commemoration of the Samaranch Memorial Hall (2026) and the Exchange Forum on the Establishment of the Olympic Documentary Research and Study Center were successfully held. The event was jointly organized by the Xiamen Olympic Museum, the Samaranch Memorial Hall, the Tianjin Dagang Olympic Museum, and the Nanjing Olympic Museum, with support from the Culture and Sports Tourism Branch of the China Tourism Association. A number of distinguished Olympic scholars and representatives from both sides of the Taiwan Strait attended the event and engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges.

The “Olympic Documentary Research and Study Center,” founded by Director Mr. Wu Ching-kuo, was officially inaugurated on this occasion. The Center houses a systematic collection of invaluable documents spanning 32 years of the International Olympic Committee’s history. Its establishment signifies a return of civilization to education and fulfills the Olympic movement’s core mission of evolving from “preserving history” to “researching the future.” It also marks a significant transition in Olympic education—from “exhibition-based display” to “in-depth academic research.”

During the event, Director Wu delivered a keynote address focusing on the educational philosophy of Mr. Juan Antonio Samaranch and the transmission of the Olympic spirit. He elaborated on the practical journey of upholding the principle that “civilization returns to education,” using four Olympic museums as platforms for implementation. In the academic dialogue session, experts and scholars from both sides of the Strait conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as the inheritance of Olympic documentation and the development of Chinese sports civilization, using sport as a bridge to foster shared cultural understanding.

The event also featured exhibitions of intangible cultural heritage in Chinese sports, as well as displays of rare documentary collections. These activities brought the Olympic spirit from archival preservation into public engagement, while further deepening cross-Strait cultural exchange through the continuity of sporting heritage.

As Director of the Xiamen Olympic Museum, Mr. Wu Ching-kuo has consistently been dedicated to the promotion of Olympic culture, the preservation of intangible sports heritage, and youth exchanges across the Taiwan Strait. His efforts have contributed valuable experience to documentary research and cross-cultural interaction.

Looking ahead, the Xiamen Olympic Museum will continue to uphold the principles of Olympic education, advancing research-based learning, cultural communication, and cross-Strait exchange. By serving as a platform and using sport as a bridge, the Museum aims to ensure the enduring legacy of the Olympic spirit and to invigorate Chinese sporting heritage through mutual learning and exchange.
