On May 9, 2009, Xiamen Olympic Museum witnessed a grand Opening Ceremony of the Exhibition “Old-time Photographs on Polish Sports”. The exhibition presents a selection of 70 photographs in a sepia tone from Museum of Sports and Tourism in Warsaw during the period from 1884 to 1924. Mr. Janusz Tatera, Counselor of Embassy of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Tomasz Jagodziński, Director of Museum of Sports and Tourism in Warsaw, and Mr. Li Xiang, Deputy Director of Xiamen Olympic Museum, attended the opening ceremony of the Exhibition.
These 70 old-time photographs have illustrated the history and development of Polish sports from the following six sections: gymnastics, rowers, cyclists, winter sports, other sports and 1924 Paris Olympic Games.
According to Mr. Tomasz Jagodziński, these 70 pictures reflect the most popular and traditional sports in Poland over 100 years ago, such as rowing, cycling, and boxing.
Mr. Li Xiang, Deputy Director of Xiamen Olympic Museum, mentioned that the exhibition had provided a good chance for the public to know more about the history and development of world sports.
All 70 pictures showed in this exhibition are provided by Museum of Sports and Tourism in Warsaw, one of the oldest sports museums in Europe.
Mr. Jagodziński indicated that the exhibition would definitely promote the exchange and cooperation between the two museums. Besides, he hoped that there would be opportunities to cooperate with Xiamen Olympic Museum and bring exhibits from China to Museum of Sports and Tourism in Warsaw in next one or two years.
