Samaranch Is Still Near, Olympic Spirit Lives On——XOM & TDOM Hold Joint Exhibitions To Commemorate The 1st Anniversary Of The Passing Of President Samaranch

I. Event Background
On April 21st 2010, Juan Antonio Samaranch, the former IOC president and IOC Honorary President for Life, died for illness in Barcelona at the age of 89. President Samaranch devoted his life to strengthening the Olympic Movement and had an indelible contribution in the Olympic history. He was also well-known in China and had earned many Chinese people’s admiration and respect. President Samaranch helped China return the Olympic family and win the Beijing Olympic Bid. It seems Samaranch had a special affection for China as well.
In order to pay respects and show mourning for the Olympic giant, Xiamen Olympic Museum, together with Tianjin D. Olympic Museum, deciding to hold a joint exhibition to commemorate the first anniversary of Samaranch’s passing away at the same time. The exhibition is aimed to place our eternal memory of Samaranch and express our gratitude for the effort Samaranch had made for Olympic Movement.
II. Event Content
The joint exhibition contains 4 parts:
1. Pictures. A large number of Samaranch’s photos will be exhibited in this event, including photos in various activities, pictures with state leaders, daily pictures, etc. A part of the pictures have never been exposed before, which are of great value.
2. Mementos. President Samaranch had been to China for 29 times and left numerous precious souvenirs in China. The exhibits include President Samaranch’s statue, head stamps, autographed Xiangyun torch, post cards, commemorative envelopes, etc.
3. Memory of Samaranch’s smile and voice. During the exhibition, the museum will play the valuable first-hand multimedia data of Samaranch in diversed activities. The look of the kind old man will be in our sight again.
4. Mourning. During the exhibition, guests can write down their mourning for Samaranch on the visitors' book, or present flowers under the statue of Samaranch.
This exhibition is a solemn memorial activity held by Xiamen Olympic Museum and Tianjin D. Olympic Museum, across north and south China. We will bear in mind the help President Samaranch had given to China. He had said that “The Chinese people have an excellent memory. They always cherish their friends in adversity and never forget anyone who helps them in times of trouble”. We sincerely hope that more people will attend this activity to pay loftiest respect to President Samaranch.
