Curator Wu awarded as Honorary Citizen of Xiamen

On the morning of October 28th, on the seventh honorary citizenship ceremony, Xiamen Mayor Liu Cigui awarded Honorary Citizen of Xiamen certificate to the International Olympic Committee Mr. Ching-kuo Wu who came from Taiwan for his outstanding contribution to the sports cultural exchange.
Mr. Wu is Xiamen’s frequent visitor and has great passion for sports and cultural exchange causes across the Taiwan Strait. He actively participated in many major sporting events. He has organized Taiwan players to participate in the competition since the first session of Xiamen International Marathon. With Mr. Wu’s great help, International Olympic Committee collected Xiamen Marathon sculptures and presented Olympic sculptures to Xiamen in return.
Meanwhile, Mr. Wu has made great investments in Xiamen. He invested in building up Olympic Tennis project and founded Xiamen Olympic Museum, the first one in China mainland, where he acted as the curator. Mr. Wu Ching-kuo was very pleased to become an honorary citizen of Xiamen. He said he has special passion for Xiamen and made some several construction projects over the years, particularly in the construction of culture and sports; it was an honor to get such a positive confirmation. Such a title is an encouragement to the individual and moreover a responsibility. He hoped cross-strait sports exchanges could become broader and broader way.
There were other 16 persons awarded as honorary citizens together with Mr. Ching-kuo Wu.Among them are Taiwan compatriots, the Philippines, Indonesian, Malaysian, Singaporean and overseas Chinese from other places, as well international friends from Germany, the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Greece and other countries.
It is known that the award selection has been held since 1996 in Xiamen. There are totally 196 citizens selected so far.
