Now, let's listen to the story together!
Hello, audience! I'm Ziqin Huang. Being Always Together with Olympic Spirit. Today, I will introduce you the torch of London 2012 Olympic Games.
The weight of London 2012 Olympic torch is 800g and the whole torch is 80cm long. It is 100g heavier than the 2004 Athens Olympic torch, while the height is increased by 12cm. With light material and hollow core, it is 185g lighter and 8cm higher than the 2008 Beijing Olympic torch, so as to be one of the lightest torch in the history of the Olympic Games.
The 2012 London Olympic torch, designed by Londoners Edward Barber and Jay Osgby, is carved with 8000 rings, honoring the life achievements of 8000 torchbearers. It is the first time that human factors have been added to the torch in the history of the Olympic Games, indicating the innovation of the London Olympic Games.
The whole body of the torch is golden, and the top is a triangular design, which is the first triangular torch in the history of the Olympic Games. The triangle symbolizes the slogan of "faster, higher and stronger" in the Olympic Games. Moreover, the non-circular torch feels better and is easier to be held by the torch bearer.
On the afternoon of May 10, 2012 local time, the flame collection ceremony of London 2012 Olympic Games was successfully held in ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games on the Peloponnesian Peninsula, Greece. After the flame collection, the highest priestess gave the torch to the first torchbearer, Greek swimmer Gianniotis, who passed the torch to the British 19-year-old boxer Lucas.
The Olympic torch relay was carried out in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, neighboring Ireland and other places. The route is 12800 kilometers through five major cities. A total of 8000 torchbearers and 5000 runners participated in the torch relay.
Finally, the torch arrived in London on July 27, 2012, and was lit at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
