The ancient Olympic Games had three characteristics:

First, the ancient Olympic Games was to worship god, the content was rich and colorful, with  comprehensive Greek events. These activities included offering sacrifices to Zeus, making pilgrimages to the gods and wishing for longevity , reading the works of poets and orators, and carrying out fair trade. Sports competitions were just one of them.

Second, the ancient Olympic Games were a part of the Greek national culture, which played a positive role in uniting people of all nationalities, maintaining national unity, reducing and stopping wars, and had a very close relationship with politics.

Thirdly, the "naked movement" was one of its characteristics, which was determined by the customs, artistic style, geographical environment and physical production of ancient Greece. During the competition, the naked athletes are required to apply olive oil to the whole body, so as to make the body shine brightly in the sunlight, and people could get a beautiful enjoyment.

In addition, the rules of the ancient Greek Olympic Games stipulated that women were forbidden to participate in and watch the games. There were two reasons: first, for a long time, most events in the ancient Olympic Games required naked athletes to compete, and women's presence was considered immoral. The second was the ancient Greek sports were part of the religious celebrations which women were not allowed to attend. It was said that the first athletes in the ancient Olympic Games competed in animal skins. In a match, a player wearing a lion's skin accidentally shed the lion's skin on the ground, he suddenly became naked, but he did not stop his game. Finally, he defeated his opponent and won the olive crown. In this accidental "accident", people discovered nakedness was a kind of special glamour, then made it a stipulation to compete in nakedness.

Nakedness is a unique feature of ancient Greek culture and art with a long history. Ancient Greek history refers to this period as the age of force. This was reflected in the works of ancient Greek sculptors and artists, who depicted naked figures. At that time, the strong muscular was recognized as a symbol of beauty.
