The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games (the 29th Summer Olympic Games) were held in Beijing, capital of the People's Republic of China from August 8th, 2008 to August 24th, 2008.

The host city of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games was Beijing,jointly held by Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Qinhuangdao and Qingdao, while Hong Kong hosts equestrian events.

There were 204 countries and regions participating in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, with 11,438 athletes participating in 302 events (28 sports) and totally 60,000 participators including athletes, coaches and officials .

With 43 new world records and 132 new Olympic records set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 87 countries and regions have won medals in the games. China topped thegold medal list with 51 golds,as the first Asian country to top the list in the Olympic history.

On the evening of August 11, 2008,  the weightlifting competition of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games called it an end. In the men's 62kg category at night, Zhang xiangxiang, who had been placed high expectations, won the men's weightlifting team's ninth gold medal of the games, with snatch weighed 143 kg and a total score of 319 kg, which was  the second gold medal for the Chinese men's weightlifting team.

The pride of Fujian athletes

Zhang Xiangxiang was born in Longyan, Fujian province on July 16th, 1983.

In 1999, Zhang xiangxiang joined the national team and was the only amateur athlete selected for the national team. In 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, Zhang Xiangxiang played steadily and won the third place in men's 56kg weightlifting class. At the 2008 national weightlifting Olympic qualification trials, Zhang Xiangxiang won three gold medals with score of 144 kilograms in the snatch, 176 kilograms in the clean and jerk, and a total score of 320 kilograms. In the Beijing Olympic Games,Zhang xiangxiang won the men's 62kg title , lifting 143 kg in the snatch and 176 kg in the clean and jerk， and with a total score of 319 kilograms.
