On June 15, 1949, the revolutionary military committee of the Chinese people issued an order to take "August 1st" as the main symbol of the flag and emblem of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the anniversary was renamed as the Army day of the Chinese People's Liberation Army .

To celebrate the army day, Xiamen Olympic museum has launched a special torch exhibition, combining the flame like passion and the concept of Olympic peace with the soldiers’  enthusiastic mission of maintaining peace at home.Through the Olympic culture and spirit conveyed by the torch, visitors experience a special August 1st army day.

In the holy land of Olympia, people also held sprint races. The athlete ,who first received the torch from the priest and lighted the sacred flame on the altar, was the winner. He would also be respected as a hero.

China held its first torch relay performance at the first National Games in 1959.

Beijing Olympics Auspicious Cloud Torch

The creative inspiration of the Beijing 2008 Olympic torch came from the "auspicious clouds" pattern of "coexistence of origin and harmony". The concept of auspicious cloud culture in China had a history of thousands of years, which was a representative Chinese cultural symbols. The design of the torch was inspired by traditional Chinese paper scrolls. The Beijing Olympic torch is 72 centimeters long and weighs 985 grams. It burns for 15 minutes, with a flame height of 25 to 30 centimeters at zero wind speed, which can be recognized and photographed under strong light and daylight conditions.

Two Beijing Olympic torches are stored in the XOM. One is autographed both in Chinese and English by the former IOC President Jacques Rogge, and the other one is autographed by the IOC honorary President Mr. Samaranch.

2014 Sochi Olympics torch

The design of the Sochi Winter Olympics torch was inspired by the myth and legend of the undead firebird in Russia. Thus, the overall shape of the torch is just like a feather. Hollow in the middle, the front and side of the torch are mainly bright silver. The torch has the winter Olympics emblem on the front.

2012 London Olympics torch

On the torch, the 8,000 round holes carved were meant to pay tribute to the life achievements of the 8,000 torch bearers. It was the first time in Olympic history that the human connotation was added to the torch, indicating the innovation of the London Olympics. The torch for the 2012 London Olympic Games is all gold and topped with a triangular design, making it the first triangular torch in Olympic history. The triangle symbolizes the Olympic motto "faster, higher, stronger", and in addition, the non-circular torch feels better and is easier for the torchbearer to hold. The London Olympic torch, which is stored in the fourth exhibition hall on the second floor, is autographed by the former IOC President Jacques Rogge on the top.

Xiamen Olympic museum boasts a large number of Olympic collections. In the fourth exhibition hall, there is a special exbition for displaying the Olympic torches, which are the collections of Mr.Ching-Kuo Wu for many years.
